Introduction
a raised body core temperature may be due to a number of causes:
normal physiology in pregnancy and menstrual cycle
fever - the febrile response to infections
heat illness and heat stroke
in addition it may occur in response to medications such as:
malignant hyperthermia
during anaesthesia in susceptible patients (can also happen during exercise)
neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS)
serotonin syndrome
amphetamine overdose
