ondansetron

  • high dose iv ondansetron may cause clinically significant QTc prolongation in some patients and iv doses for children on medications which cause prolonged QTc or have PH medical risk factors may cause potentially fatal arrhythmias 1)
  • iv doses greater than 8mg should be infused over at least 15 minutes2)
  • no single iv dose should exceed 16mg
  • avoid in patients with congenital QTc prolongation
  • screen for prolonged QTc prior to high iv doses
  • exercise care in patients at risk of prolonged QTc
