Aetiology
may be caused by a birth defect, trauma or tumour growth
Clinical features
may cause:
neuropathic pain
loss of temperature sensation
central type II respiratory failure (raised CO2, hypoventilation)
impaired muscle control of airways causing stridor and irregular breathing
