Basic calculations:
- 1% = 10mg/ml;
- 1:1000 = 1mg/ml;
- 1:10,000 = 0.1mg/ml = 100mcg/ml;
Convert mcg/kg/min to ml/hr:
- [volume in flask(mls)/amount in flask(mcg)] x mcg/kg/min x weight(kg) x 60
Convert ml/hr to mcg/kg/min:
- rate(ml/hr) x amount in flask (mcg) / [ flask volume (ml) x weight (kg) x 60 ]
Convert ml/hr to drops/min:
- [flask volume(mls) x giving set rate(drops/ml)]/[infusion time(hrs) x 60]
- NB. usual giving set rate = 15 drops/ml
