- ibogaine is a psychoactive alkaloid derived from the root bark of the African shrub Tabernanthe iboga
- it has been used in trials for significantly and rapidly reducing cravings for certain substances of addiction such as cocaine, metamphetamine, opioids, but is not currently generally available in Australia.
- it's use requires close medical monitoring due to potential life threatening cardiac arrhythmias from its propensity to cause prolonged QTc
