Introduction
- a variety of relapsing fever type illnesses spread by Borrelia infected ticks (mainly in soft bodied ticks)
- Not to be confused with louse-borne relapsing fever or Lyme disease
Aetiology
- various Borrelia species cause these illnesses:
- Borrelia crocidurae
- Borrelia duttoni
- Borrelia miyamotoi, which is transmitted by Ixodes ticks, was reported as a cause of tick-borne relapsing fever in 2011
