Eucalyptus and Essential Oil poisoning
Introduction
- ingestions of 15mL or more eucalyptus oil in adults can be fatal within hours, especially if dose is sufficient to cause acute onset seizures 1)
Mx
- do not induce vomiting as risk of aspiration and severe chemical pneumonitis
- usual ABCD
- Rx seizures as per usual - these patients may need close monitoring as cardiac arrest is a risk
