Kawasaki disease


  • a necrotising vasculitis affecting children involving the medium sized arteries with a predilection for the coronary arteries

diagnostic criteria

  • fever persisting for at least five days, plus 4 of the following 5 features:
    • changes in peripheral extremities or perineal area
    • polymorphous exanthema
    • bilateral conjunctival injection
    • inflammatory changes of lips (eg. dry, cracked lips) and oral cavity
    • cervical lymphadenopathy
